Some days ask us to hold two things at once, the heavy and the bright, the reluctance and the glow. We Can Hold Both is a small painting about exactly that.

A woven field of soft greys and whites surrounds a center that glows: rows of warm orange and gold, built up by hand, layer over layer. The calm holds the color; the color warms the calm. Neither cancels the other out, they coexist, which is the whole idea.

This is an original watercolor study, the piece that inspired the We Can Hold Both series. It’s intimate in scale but holds a wall beautifully, a focal point for a modern, warm, or gathered space.
